Meder Enzy-Peel Enzymatic Exfoliating Mask
Meder Enzy-Peel Enzymatic Exfoliating Mask
Double-Action Exfoliating Mask
Exfoliation doesn't have to mean burning, peeling or scrubbing your skin.
Enzy-Peel is one of those products I wish more people understood properly.
Because when most people hear the word "peel", they immediately think of acids, stinging, redness and skin physically peeling afterwards.
That's not what we're doing here.
Enzy-Peel is a gentle enzyme-based exfoliating mask designed to remove the dead cells sitting on the surface of the skin without aggressively disturbing the healthy skin underneath.
And it gives us two different ways of exfoliating in one product:
enzymatic exfoliation + very gentle physical exfoliation.
The clever part is that we can use both actions when the skin can tolerate them, or simply use the enzyme action when the skin needs a gentler approach.
I think of it as:
soften β loosen β remove β reveal fresher skin.
WHY I LIKE ENZY-PEEL
I'm a big believer in exfoliation.
I'm not a big believer in over-exfoliation.
There is a very important difference.
Your skin naturally renews itself, but dead cells can accumulate on the surface.
When that happens, the complexion can start looking dull.
Texture can feel rougher.
Pores can look more noticeable.
Skincare doesn't sit quite as beautifully on the skin.
Makeup doesn't look as smooth.
And that lovely natural light reflection we associate with healthy skin becomes less noticeable.
So yes, sometimes we need to help remove that excess surface build-up.
But I don't want to do it by constantly attacking the skin with strong acids and abrasive scrubs.
Enzy-Peel gives us a much more controlled approach.
Its probiotic-derived enzyme helps break down the proteins holding dead surface cells in place, while very fine mineral particles give us an optional polishing action.
The result is exfoliation that can be effective without turning your bathroom into a home chemical peel laboratory.
WHAT DOES ENZY-PEEL ACTUALLY DO?
Think of Enzy-Peel as helping the skin get rid of what is ready to leave.
The enzyme component works on the keratinised dead cells sitting on the surface.
This helps loosen accumulated surface build-up without relying on the low pH and aggressive action associated with many traditional acid peels.
Then, if your skin is suitable for it, we can add the second action.
By wetting your fingertips and gently massaging the mask before rinsing, the fine particles within the formula help physically lift away loosened surface cells.
So we have:
Step one β enzymatic exfoliation
followed by, when appropriate:
Step two β gentle physical polishing
That's where the "double-action" part comes from.
And importantly, we don't have to use both every time.
Your skin decides how much exfoliation it needs.
WHO IS ENZY-PEEL FOR?
One of the things I like about Enzy-Peel is how adaptable it is.
I particularly like it for skin that is:
Dull or tired-looking
When the complexion needs more freshness and brightness.
Rough or uneven in texture
When accumulated surface cells are making the skin feel less smooth.
Congested
When regular gentle exfoliation forms part of keeping the skin clear.
Oily or acne-prone
When we want to support healthy surface renewal without automatically reaching for aggressive acids.
Showing enlarged-looking pores
Where removing excess surface build-up can help the skin look smoother and more refined.
Mature or ageing
When natural skin renewal has slowed and the complexion needs help maintaining a fresher appearance.
Dry or flaky
When dead surface cells are contributing to roughness and preventing skincare from sitting comfortably on the skin.
Sensitive
Yes, sensitive skin can still need exfoliation β we simply change the way we use the product.
Teenage or younger problem skin
When gentle, microbiome-conscious exfoliation makes more sense than introducing aggressive acids or harsh scrubs.
The important thing isn't simply whether you exfoliate.
It's how you exfoliate.
WHY DOES YOUR SKIN NEED EXFOLIATION?
Your skin is constantly renewing itself.
New cells form, move towards the surface and eventually become part of the outermost layer before being shed.
Ideally, that process happens efficiently on its own.
But skin isn't always ideal.
Age, skin condition, environment, oil production and the products we're using can all affect how the surface looks and feels.
When too many dead cells remain sitting there, the skin can start to look:
dull
rough
uneven
congested
less radiant
Exfoliation helps remove that excess.
But here's the important part:
more exfoliation does not automatically mean better skin.
Your skin needs its outer protective layer.
We're trying to remove excessive dead-cell build-up β not continuously strip away the barrier protecting you.
That's why Enzy-Peel is something we use once or twice a week, not every day.
WHAT MAKES ENZY-PEEL DIFFERENT FROM AN ACID PEEL?
This is probably the most important thing to understand about the product.
Traditional acid exfoliants use ingredients such as glycolic, lactic or other acids to loosen connections between surface cells.
They can be very useful when appropriately selected.
But they aren't the only way to exfoliate.
Enzy-Peel takes a different approach.
Its enzyme system works on the proteins associated with the dead keratinised cells sitting on the surface.
In simple terms:
we're helping break down what is ready to come away rather than forcing the skin into aggressive exfoliation.
This is why Enzy-Peel can be suitable for people who don't necessarily tolerate traditional acids particularly well.
Gentler doesn't mean ineffective.
It simply means we're choosing a different mechanism.
WHY DO WARMTH AND HUMIDITY MATTER?
This is one of the most important tricks for getting the best out of Enzy-Peel.
Enzymes like warmth and moisture.
So rather than applying Enzy-Peel in a cold, dry bathroom and wondering why it doesn't feel particularly special, I want you to create the right environment for it.
The easiest time to use it is after a shower.
Your bathroom is already warm.
There is moisture in the air.
Your skin is slightly damp.
That's exactly what we want.
Think of the enzyme like a worker we've hired to do a job.
If we give it the right working conditions, it can do that job much more efficiently.
So with Enzy-Peel:
warm + humid = ideal.
HOW TO USE ENZY-PEEL
This isn't a product I want you rushing.
Give yourself a few minutes and use it properly.
STEP 1 β CLEANSE
Start with your appropriate MEDER cleanser.
Remove makeup first if necessary, then cleanse the actual skin.
Your face should be clean before Enzy-Peel goes on.
STEP 2 β LEAVE THE SKIN SLIGHTLY DAMP
Enzy-Peel works particularly well in a warm, humid environment.
After cleansing β ideally after a shower β leave the skin slightly damp rather than completely drying it.
STEP 3 β APPLY
Spread approximately one teaspoon of Enzy-Peel evenly over the face.
You can also bring it down onto the neck and dΓ©colletΓ©.
Make sure you have an even layer rather than tiny dots of product here and there.
STEP 4 β LEAVE FOR 5β10 MINUTES
Now leave it alone.
Give the enzymes approximately five to ten minutes to work.
You don't need to rub the product continuously.
The enzyme action is happening while the mask is sitting on the skin.
STEP 5 β OPTIONAL MASSAGE
If your skin is not sensitive or inflamed, wet your fingertips with warm water and very gently massage the skin using light circular movements.
This activates the second, physical exfoliating action of the mask.
Keep it gentle.
We're polishing the surface β not sanding it.
STEP 6 β RINSE
Rinse the product away thoroughly.
Your skin should feel beautifully smooth and fresh afterwards, not raw or irritated.
STEP 7 β CONTINUE YOUR ROUTINE
Follow with your appropriate MEDER serum and the rest of your skincare routine.
This is a lovely time to apply your treatment products because we've just removed unnecessary surface build-up.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I USE IT?
For most people:
once or twice a week is enough.
Not every day.
Not morning and evening.
And definitely not every time you feel a tiny bump on your face.
Your skin doesn't need constant exfoliation.
If your skin is oilier or more prone to congestion, twice weekly may make sense.
If your skin is sensitive, dry or easily reactive, once weekly may be more than enough.
We adjust frequency according to your skin, not according to how satisfying exfoliation feels.
YOUR ENZY-PEEL ROUTINE
On the days you're using Enzy-Peel:
1. Your MEDER Cleansing Mask
Cleanse the skin thoroughly.
2. Enzy-Peel
Leave for 5β10 minutes and rinse.
3. Energy-Soin or Soin-Apax
Choose according to your skin.
4. Your MEDER Active Concentrate
If one has been selected for your particular concern.
5. Your MEDER Cream
6. SPF
If you're doing the routine during the day.
Simple.
Enzy-Peel is an extra weekly step, not something that replaces your everyday cleanser or serum.
I HAVE SENSITIVE SKIN β CAN I STILL USE IT?
Yes.
And this is where the way you use Enzy-Peel becomes important.
Sensitive skin still accumulates dead cells.
It doesn't automatically need to be excluded from exfoliation forever.
But I don't want you adding unnecessary friction.
So if your skin is sensitive:
apply β leave for 5β10 minutes β rinse.
Skip the massage.
Let the enzymes do the exfoliating for you.
That's one of the reasons I like this product.
We can adapt the same formula according to what the skin can comfortably tolerate.
I HAVE ACNE β SHOULD I SCRUB THE BREAKOUTS?
No.
This is really important.
If you have acne-prone skin, Enzy-Peel can be a useful part of your routine because regular gentle exfoliation helps manage accumulated surface cells and congestion.
But if you have actively inflamed spots, don't start rubbing them with exfoliating particles.
Apply the mask.
Allow the enzyme action to work.
If you're going to perform the massage step, do it only over areas that are not inflamed.
Inflamed acne doesn't need additional mechanical trauma.
More aggression doesn't make acne disappear faster.
WHAT'S INSIDE IT?
Enzy-Peel is interesting because the formula combines active exfoliation with ingredients that keep the whole experience much more comfortable.
PROBIOTIC KERATOLINEβ’
This is the heart of the enzyme side of Enzy-Peel.
Keratolineβ’ is a Bacillus ferment-derived enzyme ingredient that helps break down proteins associated with accumulated dead surface cells.
That's what gives us the gentle enzymatic exfoliation.
Rather than relying on strong acids to create the peeling action, we're using an enzyme-based mechanism to help remove the keratinised cells that are ready to leave the surface.
For you, the important takeaway is:
effective exfoliation doesn't have to feel aggressive.
MICRONISED OPAL PARTICLES
This is where the second exfoliating action comes from.
Enzy-Peel contains extremely fine mineral particles used to physically polish away loosened dead cells.
The word I want you to remember is:
gentle.
These particles are not there so you can scrub your face as hard as possible.
They simply give us an additional polishing action when we add that light fingertip massage at the end.
And if your skin is sensitive?
We skip that part completely.
SHEA BUTTER
I really like the fact that Enzy-Peel contains shea butter because exfoliation and nourishment aren't usually two things people automatically put together.
Shea butter contains skin-compatible lipids that help soften and condition the skin.
So while we're removing unnecessary surface build-up, we're also supporting comfort.
This is one reason the skin can feel soft and smooth, rather than simply "scrubbed", afterwards.
VITAMIN E
Vitamin E gives us antioxidant and skin-conditioning support within the formula.
Again, it contributes to the idea that exfoliation doesn't have to be a punishment for the skin.
We're renewing the surface while still thinking about maintaining comfort.
WHAT SHOULD MY SKIN FEEL LIKE AFTERWARDS?
This is one of those products where the immediate result can be very satisfying.
After rinsing, I want the skin to feel:
Smooth. Soft. Fresh. Polished.
And visually, the complexion may look brighter simply because we've removed the dull surface layer that was interfering with light reflection.
What I don't want is:
burning.
persistent redness.
rawness.
tightness.
or the feeling that you've removed half your face.
If that's happening, we're not exfoliating better.
We're exfoliating too much.
WILL MY SKIN ACTUALLY PEEL AFTERWARDS?
No β not in the way people often imagine when they hear the word "peel."
You're not supposed to spend the next three days shedding visible sheets of skin.
Enzy-Peel is an exfoliating mask, not an aggressive resurfacing procedure.
The aim is to remove excess dead surface cells and leave the complexion smoother and fresher without requiring downtime.
So don't wait for visible peeling as proof that it worked.
Your skin doesn't need to fall off for an exfoliator to be effective.
CAN I USE ENZY-PEEL WITH RETINOL OR AHAs?
This is where I want you to be careful.
If you're already using a strong retinol programme, AHAs or other products that significantly accelerate skin renewal, you may not need additional exfoliation.
Adding more isn't automatically better.
It's one of the easiest ways to end up with dry, sensitive, reactive skin.
MEDER advises allowing around 2β3 weeks after finishing a course of retinol or acid-based solutions before returning to Enzy-Peel.
But rather than trying to calculate how much exfoliation your skin can survive, I'd much rather we look at your routine as a whole.
If you're already using active exfoliating products, tell me.
We'll decide whether Enzy-Peel belongs in the routine at that particular time.
CAN I USE ENZY-PEEL WHILE TAKING ISOTRETINOIN?
No.
If you're taking isotretinoin β Roaccutane or a similar treatment β I don't want you exfoliating the skin with Enzy-Peel.
Isotretinoin already dramatically affects skin renewal and can make the skin dry, fragile and much more vulnerable to irritation.
Adding exfoliation on top of that can create unnecessary trauma.
MEDER recommends waiting at least 8β10 weeks after finishing isotretinoin before returning to enzyme exfoliation.
And even then, I want the skin to be comfortable and recovered first.
This is one of those situations where more skincare is absolutely not better skincare.
WHAT ABOUT AFTER LASER?
Again, we need to respect what the skin has been through.
After a non-ablative laser treatment, MEDER advises waiting approximately 3β4 weeks, provided there are no scabs and the skin has recovered appropriately.
After an ablative laser treatment, the wait is considerably longer β approximately 8β10 weeks after the scabs have shed.
But these are general guidelines.
The practitioner who performed your treatment knows exactly what was done to your skin.
So the rule remains:
your individual post-procedure instructions come first.
Don't exfoliate freshly treated skin because a calendar tells you enough time has passed.
The skin itself needs to be ready.
WHEN WILL I SEE A DIFFERENCE?
Enzy-Peel is one of those products where you can often appreciate the result immediately.
The skin can feel noticeably smoother after one use.
It may look fresher and brighter.
Makeup may sit more beautifully.
And the products you apply afterwards are no longer sitting on top of quite as much accumulated surface build-up.
But the bigger benefit comes from regular, sensible exfoliation.
Not aggressive exfoliation once every three months.
Not exfoliating every day.
Just a consistent once- or twice-weekly step that helps keep the surface of the skin smooth and well maintained.
ENZYME EXFOLIATION OR A SCRUB?
This is probably the easiest way to understand the difference.
CHOOSE ENZYME ACTION IF...
Your skin is sensitive, reactive, inflamed or simply doesn't need mechanical exfoliation.
Apply Enzy-Peel, leave it to work and rinse without massaging.
ADD THE GENTLE POLISHING STEP IF...
Your skin tolerates exfoliation comfortably and you want that additional smoothing action.
Wet your fingertips and gently massage before rinsing.
We're not really choosing between two completely different products.
We're deciding how much of Enzy-Peel's double action your skin needs today.
WHAT SHOULD I USE AFTER ENZY-PEEL?
This depends entirely on your skin.
After rinsing Enzy-Peel, go back into your normal MEDER routine.
For non-sensitive skin, that may mean Energy-Soin.
For sensitive skin, it may be Soin-Apax.
Then continue with whatever targeted active care and moisturiser have been selected for you.
And this is something I particularly like about having Enzy-Peel as a weekly step:
we've removed excess surface build-up, so we're creating a beautifully smooth starting point for the skincare that follows.
But don't use that as an excuse to apply every active product you own.
Freshly exfoliated skin still deserves a well-selected routine, not an ingredient buffet.
MY ENZY-PEEL RULES
If you remember nothing else from this page, remember these:
Once or twice a week is enough.
Your skin doesn't need daily exfoliation.
Warmth and humidity matter.
After a shower is an ideal time to use Enzy-Peel.
Give it 5β10 minutes.
The enzymes need contact time to do their job.
Sensitive skin skips the massage.
Let the enzyme action do the exfoliating.
Don't scrub inflamed acne.
Avoid mechanical massage over active, inflamed breakouts.
Don't combine exfoliation just for the sake of it.
If you're already using strong retinol or acids, we need to consider your whole routine.
No Enzy-Peel during isotretinoin treatment.
The skin is already undergoing accelerated renewal and can be extremely fragile.
Respect professional treatments.
After laser or other resurfacing procedures, follow your practitioner's recovery instructions.
Exfoliation should make skin smoother β not angrier.
Burning, rawness and prolonged irritation are not signs of a better result.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Enzy-Peel is the exfoliator I want you to think of when we want smoother, fresher skin without declaring war on the skin barrier.
It gives us two actions in one product.
The enzymes quietly loosen and remove accumulated dead surface cells.
Then, when the skin is suitable for it, the fine polishing particles give us an additional smoothing step.
And because we can remove that second step completely for sensitive or inflamed skin, Enzy-Peel becomes incredibly adaptable.
Use it once or twice a week.
Give it warmth, moisture and a few minutes to work.
And remember:
good exfoliation isn't about how much skin you can remove. It's about removing exactly what the skin no longer needs.
