Restorative Night Hand Cream for Dryness, Ageing & Overnight Recovery

Your hands do a full day's work. Circa-Hand takes care of what happens afterwards.

We put an enormous amount of effort into preventing signs of ageing on our face, yet our hands are often exposed to considerably more stress.

Water. Soap. Sanitiser. Cleaning products. Cold weather. Heat. UV. Constant friction. Repeated washing.

And unlike the face, which usually receives cleanser, serum, moisturiser and SPF, our hands are expected to survive all of this with an occasional application of whatever hand cream happens to be nearby.

Circa-Hand is MEDER's night treatment for the hands, designed to support dry, stressed and ageing skin during the period when the body naturally shifts towards recovery and repair.

It combines rich skin-compatible lipids with hydration, barrier support, niacinamide, panthenol and microbiome-friendly ingredients — but without the thick, greasy texture we often associate with intensive hand creams.

I think of it as:

replenish → hydrate → repair → brighten → protect.

WHY I LIKE CIRCA-HAND

Circa-Hand isn't simply about making your hands feel softer for twenty minutes.

It's designed as an actual overnight hand treatment.

During the day, our hands repeatedly lose water and lipids through washing, environmental exposure and friction. The barrier becomes stressed, particularly if we're washing or sanitising frequently.

At the same time, the backs of our hands are constantly exposed to UV, which is one of the reasons pigmentation, thinning and visible ageing can become so noticeable there.

Circa-Hand gives us one dedicated moment each day to put something back.

Apply it before bed.

Let it stay on the skin rather than washing it off ten minutes later.

And give the hands several uninterrupted hours in which the formula can support hydration, barrier recovery and overall skin quality.

Simple.

But very clever.

WHO IS CIRCA-HAND FOR?

I particularly like Circa-Hand for:

Dry hands
When the skin regularly feels tight, rough or uncomfortable.

Mature hands
When the backs of the hands are becoming thinner, drier or more visibly lined.

Age spots and uneven tone
When sun exposure has contributed to brown spots or a more uneven-looking hand complexion.

Fine lines and wrinkles
When dehydration and age-related changes are making the skin look creased.

Sensitive hands
When the skin needs effective nourishment without an unnecessarily aggressive formula.

Stressed or irritated hands
Particularly after repeated washing, sanitising or environmental exposure.

Rough cuticles
When the skin around the nails is becoming dry and hardened.

Cold-weather hands
When winter seems to remove every last drop of moisture from your skin.

People who hate greasy hand cream
Because Circa-Hand is specifically designed to provide substantial nourishment while absorbing quickly.

And importantly, you don't need visibly “old” hands to use it.

If your hands are repeatedly dry, stressed or exposed to a demanding environment, overnight recovery makes sense at almost any adult age.

WHY DO OUR HANDS AGE SO QUICKLY?

Because hands have a difficult job.

Think about how many times during an average day you:

wash them.

dry them.

touch surfaces.

use sanitiser.

cook.

clean.

drive.

go outside.

handle paper.

use cleaning products.

and expose them to temperature changes.

Every one of those things can affect the skin barrier.

Then there's UV.

The backs of our hands are frequently exposed to daylight for decades, but they're one of the areas most commonly forgotten when applying sunscreen.

So hands receive:

constant barrier stress + constant environmental exposure + very inconsistent skincare.

No wonder they eventually start showing it.

THE BACK OF YOUR HAND AND YOUR PALM ARE VERY DIFFERENT

This is worth understanding.

The skin on your palms is thick and specialised for gripping, friction and repeated mechanical use.

The skin on the backs of your hands is much thinner and behaves more like the skin we're accustomed to treating cosmetically.

This is where we tend to notice:

pigmentation

fine lines

thinning

visible veins

and loss of firmness.

So when people say:

"My hands suddenly look old,"

they're usually talking primarily about the backs of the hands.

And that's exactly where decades of sun exposure and structural ageing become particularly visible.

WHY DOES HAND WASHING MAKE MY SKIN SO DRY?

Your skin barrier contains lipids that help keep water inside the skin and environmental irritants outside it.

Cleansing is necessary.

But repeated exposure to water and surfactants can remove some of those protective lipids.

Then we dry the hands.

Wash them again.

Sanitise them.

Wash again.

Repeat.

Eventually, the barrier may become less efficient at retaining water.

The result can be:

tightness

roughness

flaking

redness

sensitivity

and eventually cracking.

The answer is not to stop washing your hands.

The answer is to replace some of what repeated washing removes.

That's where a good hand cream earns its place.

WHAT ABOUT HAND SANITISER?

Alcohol-based hand sanitiser is extremely useful when appropriate.

But frequent use can be drying, particularly when combined with repeated hand washing.

If your occupation or lifestyle requires you to sanitise constantly, your hand-care routine needs to acknowledge that.

Think:

clean when necessary → moisturise consistently → restore overnight.

Circa-Hand doesn't stop sanitiser from doing its job.

It simply gives the skin an opportunity to recover from the cumulative dryness and barrier stress that can accompany frequent use.

WHY NIGHTTIME?

This is what makes Circa-Hand different.

Our skin doesn't behave exactly the same way every hour of the day.

Like many tissues in the body, skin follows circadian rhythms — biological patterns that change over approximately 24 hours.

Processes involved in:

barrier function.

cellular activity.

water loss.

inflammation.

and tissue recovery

vary throughout the day and night.

MEDER developed Circa-Hand as part of its circadian skincare concept, alongside Circa-Night and Arma-Bust.

But there's also an extremely practical advantage to nighttime hand care.

You're not washing it off.

During the day, you may apply hand cream beautifully and then wash your hands fifteen minutes later.

At night, Circa-Hand can remain on the skin for several uninterrupted hours.

Sometimes good skincare is sophisticated biology.

Sometimes it's simply excellent timing.

DOES CIRCA-HAND REALLY “RESET” MY SKIN CLOCK?

I would describe this more carefully.

Your skin cells have biological rhythms influenced by the body's circadian system.

MEDER designed Circa-Hand around the idea of supporting the skin's natural nighttime recovery processes.

That doesn't mean applying the cream at 10:03 p.m. literally resets a broken clock inside your hand.

Think of it this way:

your skin already has its own rhythm.

Circa-Hand is designed to work with the recovery phase rather than against it.

That's a much better way to understand circadian skincare.

WHAT DOES CIRCA-HAND ACTUALLY DO?

Circa-Hand approaches stressed hand skin from several directions.

Garcinia Butter replenishes lipids and helps restore softness and comfort.

Olive Squalane provides lightweight, skin-compatible nourishment.

Vitamin E contributes antioxidant protection and lipid support.

Niacinamide supports barrier function and helps improve uneven pigmentation and overall skin resilience.

Panthenol calms irritation and supports recovery.

Hyaluronic Acid helps maintain hydration.

Aquaxyl™ supports the skin's water-holding mechanisms.

BioEcolia® provides prebiotic support for the skin microbiome.

So rather than simply:

dry hand → add grease

we're thinking:

lipids + water + barrier + microbiome + recovery + pigmentation.

That's what makes Circa-Hand more interesting than an ordinary hand moisturiser.

WHAT'S INSIDE IT?

Circa-Hand is actually a beautiful example of combining very familiar ingredients with more sophisticated skin-barrier technology.

There isn't one single “miracle” ingredient doing everything.

The formula works because different ingredients solve different parts of the problem.

GARCINIA BUTTER

Garcinia butter comes from the seeds of Garcinia indica.

It's a rich plant-derived butter that helps replenish the lipids dry skin has lost.

This matters enormously for hands.

When the barrier has been repeatedly stressed by water, soap, sanitiser and weather, we don't only need to add water back into the skin.

We also need to help restore the lipid environment that keeps that water there.

Think of Garcinia butter as helping rebuild the protective, nourishing side of the barrier.

MEDER combines it with olive squalane and vitamin E, creating a rich lipid base without making the finished cream excessively greasy.

OLIVE SQUALANE

Squalane is one of my favourite ingredients for dry skin because it provides lipid nourishment without necessarily feeling heavy.

Our own sebum naturally contains the related compound squalene.

Cosmetic squalane is the stable form commonly used in skincare.

In Circa-Hand, it helps:

soften

smooth

reduce moisture loss

and restore flexibility to dry skin.

This is particularly useful on hands because nobody wants a treatment that leaves them unable to touch their phone, sheets, book or anything else for the next hour.

Rich doesn't have to mean greasy.

VITAMIN E

Vitamin E is a lipid-soluble antioxidant and a classic ingredient in barrier-supportive skincare.

It works beautifully alongside plant butters and squalane because we're simultaneously thinking about:

nourishment

and

protection from oxidative stress.

Hands receive a surprising amount of environmental exposure.

So antioxidant support makes sense here just as much as it does on the face.

NIACINAMIDE

Niacinamide — vitamin B3 — is one of the stars of Circa-Hand.

And this is where the formula moves beyond basic moisturising.

Niacinamide helps support:

barrier function

ceramide production

skin resilience

more even-looking tone

and the overall quality of ageing skin.

That's particularly useful for the backs of the hands, where dryness and pigmentation often appear together.

We don't just want softer hands.

We want healthier-looking hands.

WILL NIACINAMIDE HELP AGE SPOTS?

It can help improve uneven-looking pigmentation and support a brighter, more even appearance over time.

But we need to talk about what “age spots” actually are.

Many of the brown spots we associate with ageing are strongly related to cumulative sun exposure.

That's why they're also called solar lentigines.

So yes, brightening skincare can help.

But if you're simultaneously exposing your hands to UV every day without protection, you're continuing to stimulate the same problem we're trying to improve.

Which brings me to one of my favourite hand-care rules:

SPF belongs on the backs of your hands too.

AGE SPOTS AREN'T SIMPLY CAUSED BY AGE

This is important.

We call them age spots because they become more common as we get older.

But time isn't the only factor.

What has also accumulated over those years?

UV exposure.

The backs of the hands are exposed when we:

walk outside.

drive.

sit near windows.

garden.

travel.

and simply go about everyday life.

So when pigmentation appears later, it's often telling us something about cumulative sun exposure, not merely the number on our birthday cake.

Age contributes.

UV contributes enormously.

PANTHENOL

Panthenol — pro-vitamin B5 — gives Circa-Hand its soothing and recovery side.

It helps support:

hydration

comfort

softness

and recovery of irritated skin.

This makes it particularly useful after a day of:

repeated washing.

cold weather.

sanitising.

cleaning.

or simply working with your hands.

Think of niacinamide as helping strengthen the system.

Panthenol helps calm it down.

HYALURONIC ACID

Hyaluronic acid is excellent at interacting with water and helping maintain hydration within the skin.

And yes — it makes sense in a hand cream.

Dry hands aren't only missing oil.

They may also be significantly dehydrated.

So while Garcinia butter and squalane help with the lipid side, hyaluronic acid helps with the water side.

Good moisturising needs both.

Think:

water + lipids = happier barrier.

AQUAXYL™

Aquaxyl™ is based on xylitol-derived components and is designed to support the skin's water balance and water-holding mechanisms.

This complements hyaluronic acid beautifully.

Rather than simply applying something that temporarily makes the surface feel wet, we're trying to improve the skin's ability to maintain hydration more effectively.

That's particularly useful overnight, when the cream has time to remain on the hands uninterrupted.

BIOECOLIA® — WHY DOES MY HAND MICROBIOME MATTER?

Because your microbiome doesn't stop at your wrists.

Your hands have their own microbial ecosystem.

And it's an especially interesting one because hands constantly come into contact with:

water.

soap.

sanitiser.

surfaces.

other people.

animals.

food.

and the surrounding environment.

BioEcolia® is a prebiotic ingredient used to support a healthier microbial environment on the skin.

The goal isn't to make your hands “full of bacteria.”

They're already home to microorganisms.

The goal is to support the balanced ecosystem associated with healthy barrier function.

Again:

healthy skin is not sterile skin.

DOES HAND SANITISER DESTROY MY MICROBIOME?

Frequent cleansing and sanitising can certainly alter the microbial environment of the hands.

But hand hygiene exists for a very good reason.

I don't want microbiome skincare to become an excuse for avoiding appropriate hand washing.

The answer is balance.

Wash when you need to wash.

Sanitise when you need to sanitise.

Then support the skin barrier and microbial environment afterwards.

Microbiome-friendly skincare should work alongside sensible hygiene, not against it.

WHAT ABOUT CRACKED HANDS?

When skin becomes extremely dry, the barrier can become so compromised that visible cracks or fissures develop.

Circa-Hand can help maintain hydration, lipids and comfort and can be very useful for dry, stressed hands.

But if cracks are:

deep

bleeding

painful

infected-looking

or persist despite regular care,

don't simply keep applying more cosmetic hand cream indefinitely.

You may be dealing with dermatitis, eczema or another condition that deserves proper assessment.

Skincare supports the barrier.

Sometimes skin also needs medical treatment.

CAN CIRCA-HAND HELP CUTICLES?

Yes.

MEDER specifically notes that Circa-Hand helps soften rough skin and cuticles.

And this makes sense.

Cuticles become dry for many of the same reasons the surrounding hand skin does:

water.

soap.

sanitiser.

cold.

cleaning products.

and lack of lipid support.

When applying Circa-Hand at night, take a few seconds to massage a small amount around the nail folds and cuticles.

No complicated separate ritual required.

WHAT ABOUT NAILS?

Circa-Hand is primarily a skin treatment, not a dedicated nail-strengthening treatment.

But keeping the surrounding skin and cuticles well moisturised creates a healthier environment around the nail.

If your nails themselves are:

extremely brittle.

changing colour.

lifting.

thickening.

or changing shape,

don't assume the solution is more hand cream.

Nails can reflect completely different issues.

Again:

treat the problem you're actually looking at.

HOW TO USE CIRCA-HAND

This is beautifully simple.

Apply Circa-Hand once daily at night before bed to clean hands.

That's it.

STEP 1 — CLEAN YOUR HANDS

Do your final hand wash of the evening.

Dry them gently but thoroughly.

STEP 2 — APPLY CIRCA-HAND

Massage a small amount over the hands, paying particular attention to:

the backs of the hands

knuckles

dry areas

and cuticles.

STEP 3 — GO TO BED

No need to reapply every hour.

MEDER specifically designed Circa-Hand as a once-a-day nighttime treatment.

Let it stay on the skin while you sleep.

Wake up.

Enjoy softer hands.

Repeat tomorrow night.

HOW MUCH SHOULD I USE?

Enough to comfortably cover both hands.

Not enough to leave your bedsheets moisturised too.

Circa-Hand is specifically formulated to absorb quickly, so you shouldn't need an enormous amount.

Start small.

Spread it thoroughly over the hands.

Pay attention to the backs of the hands rather than putting the entire amount into your palms.

And don't forget the cuticles.

DO I NEED COTTON GLOVES OVER IT?

No.

You can use cotton gloves if you personally enjoy that kind of intensive hand-care ritual, but Circa-Hand doesn't require them.

The cream is designed to work as a normal overnight treatment.

In fact, one of its strengths is how simple it is:

apply → absorb → sleep.

I don't want a hand cream routine requiring special equipment unless your skin genuinely needs it.

CAN I USE IT DURING THE DAY?

Yes, if you want to.

The fast-absorbing texture means it can work perfectly well during the day too.

But Circa-Hand's main role is overnight restoration, and MEDER specifically recommends once-daily application before bed.

If your hands are constantly dry during the day and need repeated protective moisturising after washing, that's where Salva-Hand may make more sense.

Which brings us to the important distinction.

CIRCA-HAND OR SALVA-HAND?

These two creams are complementary, but they have different jobs.

CHOOSE CIRCA-HAND IF...

Your main concerns are:

overnight recovery

ageing hands

fine lines

dark spots

dryness

skin restoration

or improving overall hand-skin quality.

Think:

RESTORE + NOURISH + AGE-WELL.

CHOOSE SALVA-HAND IF...

Your main concerns are:

daytime protection

frequent hand washing

very dry or stressed hands

cold weather

repeated environmental exposure

or maintaining comfort throughout the day.

Think:

PROTECT + DEFEND + COMFORT.

And if your hands need both?

Use both.

CAN I USE CIRCA-HAND AND SALVA-HAND TOGETHER?

Absolutely.

In fact, this is probably the easiest way to understand MEDER's hand-care system:

DAY — Salva-Hand

NIGHT — Circa-Hand

Salva-Hand helps protect the hands while they're being exposed to the day.

Circa-Hand helps restore them afterwards.

Protection during the day.

Recovery at night.

Very simple.

And you don't need both unless your hands actually need both.

WHAT ABOUT DISHWASHING AND CLEANING?

This is where skincare alone shouldn't be doing all the work.

Repeated contact with:

detergents.

cleaning chemicals.

hot water.

and prolonged wet work

can seriously stress the hand barrier.

If you're doing a lot of cleaning or washing dishes, protective gloves can make an enormous difference.

Use the cream.

But also remove the avoidable source of irritation where practical.

Otherwise we're repeatedly damaging the barrier and asking Circa-Hand to rebuild it every night.

Your skincare shouldn't have to fight your kitchen sink alone.

WHAT ABOUT WINTER?

Winter can be brutal for hands.

Cold outdoor air contains less moisture.

Indoor heating dries the environment further.

Then we repeatedly move between cold outside and heated indoor spaces.

Add frequent washing and suddenly the hands become:

tight.

rough.

red.

flaky.

and sometimes cracked.

Circa-Hand is excellent as an overnight recovery step during winter.

If dryness is severe throughout the day as well, pair it with Salva-Hand.

AND SUMMER?

Circa-Hand still makes sense.

Dryness doesn't disappear just because it's warm.

But summer brings another major hand concern:

UV exposure.

If you're working on preventing hand ageing and pigmentation, don't put Circa-Hand away and forget about your hands until winter.

Use the nighttime treatment.

Then protect the backs of your hands during the day.

Especially when spending significant time outdoors.

PLEASE PUT SPF ON YOUR HANDS

I know I've said this on several product pages.

I'm going to keep saying it.

If you're concerned about:

age spots

wrinkles

thinning skin

and premature hand ageing,

protect the backs of your hands from UV.

You don't necessarily need a special “hand sunscreen.”

Your normal broad-spectrum sunscreen can be applied to exposed hand skin.

And remember:

hand washing removes sunscreen.

So if you're outdoors for prolonged periods, reapplication may be necessary.

Circa-Hand supports the skin overnight.

SPF helps prevent us creating more damage during the day.

WHAT ABOUT DRIVING?

Hands can receive significant light exposure while driving, particularly through the side windows depending on the vehicle and glass.

If you spend a lot of time driving and are concerned about hand ageing or pigmentation, sunscreen on the backs of the hands is a very sensible habit.

The steering wheel doesn't need SPF.

Your hands do.

CAN CIRCA-HAND MAKE MY HANDS LOOK YOUNGER?

It can help them look smoother, softer, brighter and better hydrated, while supporting elasticity and reducing the appearance of fine lines.

That absolutely can create a more youthful appearance.

But let's be realistic about what hand ageing involves.

As we get older, changes can occur not only in the skin but also in:

subcutaneous fat

veins

tendons

and underlying structures.

This is why older hands may look more bony or vascular.

A hand cream can improve the skin covering those structures.

It cannot replace lost volume underneath it.

Again:

better skin ≠ changed anatomy.

WHY DO VEINS BECOME MORE VISIBLE?

Often because the tissue covering them changes.

As the skin becomes thinner and underlying volume decreases, veins and tendons may become more visible.

Hydrated, healthier-looking skin can make the overall hand appearance much better.

But Circa-Hand isn't going to make your veins physically disappear.

If vascular prominence is the main concern, that's different from treating dryness, pigmentation or fine lines.

Understanding the cause prevents unrealistic expectations.

CAN I USE IT IF MY HANDS ARE SENSITIVE?

Yes.

MEDER describes Circa-Hand as hypoallergenic and suitable for all skin types, including sensitive and irritated hands.

The formula also contains panthenol and microbiome-supportive ingredients, which make sense in stressed skin.

But as always:

“suitable for sensitive skin” doesn't mean every person on Earth is guaranteed never to react.

If you develop persistent burning, itching or redness after application, stop and reassess.

Comfort should improve.

Not deteriorate.

CAN I USE IT DURING PREGNANCY?

MEDER states that Circa-Hand is suitable during pregnancy, breastfeeding and menopause, consistent with the brand's wider positioning of its skincare.

And because this is a straightforward barrier-supportive hand treatment rather than a strong exfoliating or retinoid-based formula, it fits very naturally into a simple pregnancy skincare routine.

WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?

Some benefits should be noticeable relatively quickly.

After application and overnight hydration, hands may feel:

softer

smoother

less tight

and more comfortable.

For changes in:

fine lines

overall resilience

uneven tone

and the appearance of ageing,

think longer term.

Consistency matters.

Apply it every night.

Protect the hands during the day.

And judge the overall condition of your skin after several weeks rather than expecting one application to reverse years of washing, weather and UV exposure.

MY CIRCA-HAND RULES

If you remember nothing else from this page, remember these:

Hands age too.
Your skincare routine shouldn't pretend they stop existing at the wrist.

Nighttime is practical as well as biological.
Circa-Hand can remain on the skin for hours without being repeatedly washed away.

Dry hands need water AND lipids.
Hyaluronic Acid and Aquaxyl™ support hydration; Garcinia Butter and Squalane support the lipid barrier.

Hand washing isn't the enemy.
Wash when necessary, then support the barrier afterwards.

Your microbiome doesn't stop at your wrists.
BioEcolia® provides prebiotic support for the hand-skin ecosystem.

Niacinamide makes this more than a moisturiser.
It supports the barrier, resilience and more even-looking pigmentation.

Age spots are strongly influenced by UV.
Treat the pigmentation — but stop creating more of it.

SPF belongs on the backs of your hands.
Especially if hand ageing is one of your concerns.

Don't forget your cuticles.
Take the cream around the nail folds while applying it.

Circa-Hand and Salva-Hand aren't duplicates.
Circa-Hand = nighttime restoration. Salva-Hand = daytime protection.

You can use both.
Salva-Hand during the day → Circa-Hand before bed.

A hand cream cannot replace lost volume.
It can improve skin quality, not alter the anatomy underneath it.

Once a night is enough.
Circa-Hand is designed as a simple daily treatment, not another product you need to remember every two hours.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Circa-Hand is the hand cream I want you to think of when your hands need more than temporary softness — they need recovery.

All day, your hands are working.

They're washed.

Sanitised.

Exposed to water.

Exposed to cold.

Exposed to heat.

Exposed to UV.

And expected to keep functioning without complaint.

At night, Circa-Hand gives us an opportunity to put something back.

We use Garcinia Butter, Olive Squalane and Vitamin E to replenish the nourishing lipid side of the barrier.

Hyaluronic Acid and Aquaxyl™ to support hydration.

Niacinamide to strengthen barrier function and address uneven pigmentation.

Panthenol to calm and support stressed skin.

And BioEcolia® to support the hand microbiome.

But the thing I like most is how uncomplicated the routine is.

You don't need a ten-step hand ritual.

You don't need gloves, gadgets or an alarm reminding you to moisturise every hour.

You simply apply it before bed.

And let the hours when your hands finally stop working become the hours when you start taking care of them.

Because our hands spend all day taking care of everything else.

They deserve one good treatment at the end of it.
